Pest Control in Craigleith

A narrow band of housing pinned between Georgian Bay and the escarpment, occupied hard at weekends and empty from Monday to Thursday for most of the year.

Most problems here are found late, and it is nobody's fault. Craigleith is a strip — Highway 26 and the shoreline on one side, the escarpment rising immediately behind — with very little depth to it, and between the geography and the empty midweek, that combination decides almost everything about the work.

The hill is directly behind you

Bat habitat starts where the ground goes up. In Collingwood the escarpment is a view; in Craigleith it is the back of the property. Crevices, rock face and mature bush sit within a few hundred metres of most of these buildings, and the chalets in front of them have exactly the complex multi-level rooflines a maternity colony is looking for.

The exclusion window is the same law that governs everywhere on this escarpment — nothing between roughly early June and late August, because the pups are flightless and several Ontario bat species are protected. What differs in Craigleith is how late people find out, which brings us to the occupancy pattern.

Empty Monday to Thursday

A ski-club chalet is used at weekends through the winter and sporadically the rest of the year. Nobody is standing in the building at dusk in February, which is when and how bats are normally noticed. So the colony is found by smell, by staining, or by a guano pile discovered in August — a season or two after it established.

What a midweek-empty building changes

  • Problems are found late, so they are larger and cost more when they are found.
  • We can work midweek without disturbing anyone, which makes scheduling here easier than almost anywhere else we cover.
  • Nobody is present to notice a failure, so verification visits matter more than usual — you cannot rely on "we would have heard it".
  • Keys, codes and access arrangements decide the job. Tell us how we get in when you book, not on the day.

Bat removal and bed bug treatment in a Craigleith chalet

The two problems that dominate here also happen to be the two that most reward being caught early. Bats are the escarpment behind you; bed bugs are the guests in front of you, and a property let by the weekend all season carries the same exposure as the rentals in the Blue Mountains. Detail on both: bat removal and the exclusion window and bed bug treatment.

Booking work in Craigleith

Tell us what you have actually seen and where, and roughly when it started. That is usually enough to say whether you are looking at something we should be at this afternoon, something that wants a booking, or something where the honest answer is to wait — bat exclusion in July being the clearest example of the last one.
