Pest Control in Collingwood
Two towns in one: a heritage core with a century of accumulated gaps in it, and new subdivisions pushing into what was farmland last decade.
Collingwood's pest profile splits along the same line as everything else about the town — the old core, and the new edge.
The old core
The grid between Hurontario and the harbour holds a great deal of late-nineteenth and early-twentieth century housing, and the buildings have had a hundred years to accumulate gaps. Stone and rubble foundations with mortar that has weathered back, balloon-framed walls that give a mouse a clear run from the sill plate to the attic, chimneys that were capped at some point and are not any more, and rooflines that have been altered more than once.
That produces the rodent and wildlife work. It also means exclusion here takes longer than a quote based on square footage suggests: on a heritage building there is rarely one entry point, there are eleven, and half of them are only findable from inside the attic.
The new edge
The subdivisions on the south and east sides are tight, well-sealed buildings on ground that was open field very recently. That combination produces a specific and predictable pattern: very little structural pest pressure, and a sharp autumn spike of field mice displaced when the surrounding land is worked or built on. A brand-new house is not immune — it just has fewer ways in, which is why the ones it does have matter so much.
On new builds the entries are almost always service penetrations and the garage door seal, and they are usually a single afternoon's work to close properly.
The harbour and the commercial strip
Commercial food premises along the main street and around the harbour carry the obligations that come with a public health inspection, and the standard there is documentation as much as treatment — a monitored program with dated records rather than a call when something is seen. Rats are more plausible around commercial waste here than anywhere else in our area, and they are a different program from mice.
