Pest Control in Thornbury

Thornbury and Clarksburg sit at the eastern end of the orchard belt that runs along the escarpment toward Meaford, and that agricultural edge drives most of what we deal with here.

Cluster flies

Cluster fly larvae parasitise earthworms, so their numbers track undisturbed soil — pasture, old sod and orchard floor. The land behind Thornbury produces them in quantity, and the village's older houses with large sun-facing walls give them somewhere to aggregate in late September and October.

The consequence is the February problem: hundreds of slow flies at upstairs windows on the first mild day, from a population that moved into the wall voids five months earlier. The treatment that works is exterior and it happens in early to mid September. There is no useful January answer, and we will say so rather than sell one.

Fruit, and what it attracts

Orchard and packing operations bring their own profile — wasps around fruit through the harvest, rodent pressure in storage and equipment buildings, and fruit flies wherever windfall accumulates. Commercial food premises here carry documentation obligations that a residential job does not, and the right product is a monitored program with dated records rather than a call-out when something is seen.

Older village buildings

Thornbury's housing stock runs older than Collingwood's new edge by a long way, with the gaps that implies — weathered mortar, altered rooflines, uncapped chimneys and a good deal of soft fascia. Bats and raccoons both use those, and on the escarpment side of the village bat pressure is as high as anywhere we work.

The harbour

Boat storage and the buildings around the harbour produce a specific rodent pattern — vessels and equipment stored over winter are quiet, sheltered, and full of soft material worth nesting in. Anything shrink-wrapped and left from October to May is worth checking before it is opened, not after.
